Detailed Information
1. Access to federated data, packaged for rapid innovation
There are many thousands of disparate sources of data relating to our physical world, each with non-consistent ontologies, spatial coverage, formats, APIs, licensing, and commercial terms.
Eratos packages data sources into interoperable modules, enabling users to quickly compose solutions without all the data sourcing, integration, and legal work traditionally required to curate data workflows from numerous data owners and locations.
2. IoT data – real-time and time-series analysis
Eratos integrates technology developed by the Australian Government’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). Called Senaps, the technology is exclusive to Eratos and is an enterprise IoT workflow and model orchestration engine.
It allows Eratos to connect to any IoT or embedded network, extract near-real-time data, and transform that data in-flow for analysis and reporting. Mixed with Eratos’ ability to curate time-series data, Senaps is a powerful monitoring tool, with the ability to reuse real-time data for scenario and longitudinal analysis.
3. Integration of private data to create personalized insights and modules
Eratos makes it easy to securely integrate private data with public data to create tailored insights for specific locations and organizations. Unlike most data platforms, Eratos has a decentralised architecture meaning customers set up Gateway Nodes where their data is stored to provide metadata indexing, user permissions, and external access control.
Users can choose whether they host data with Eratos or manage it themselves in-situ. Users can integrate both centralized and distributed data together as Eratos provides convenient, performant, and well-governed access. Eratos has proven this capability through an initiative to federate Australia’s high-resolution climate data - more than 10 petabytes of gridded data distributed across multiple institutions nationwide.
4. Create, run, and scale models
Eratos enables users to create models that can be composed together into predictable, traceable workflows. This enables rapid prototyping and innovation of new ideas followed by a seamless transition into scalable, industry-ready solutions with enterprise-grade hosting and governance.
It also provides reuse and interoperability between models and datasets, allowing solutions to be progressively upgraded as new models and data become available.
5. Empowering our community to collaborate
Siloed data and modeling is restricting collaborative innovation. Eratos gives participants the power to create, remix, improve, and operate solutions as part of our Community.
Eratos’ vision is to see thousands of creators empowered to build solutions, solving a myriad of problems while enjoying the synergies and efficiency of working collaborative and openly on a common platform.
Through private and public workspaces, users can create a place to store data, models, and solutions that are shared with collaborators to accelerate design, build, prototype, and test before publishing to the wider community.
Eratos provides both the market mechanism and the governance infrastructure to enable this. Creators retain control of their intellectual property, controlling how it is accessed, shared and (optionally) commercialized. This will enable our customers to work with researchers, government, partners, and other organizations in a safe, rapid, and collaborative way to solve problems and commercialize new market opportunities.
6. Orchestrate Complex Data Transformations
With Eratos, customers can create data pipelines that are repeatable and scalable, that turn any data into spatial data.
The steps are simple:
- Make data accessible, no matter its location, no matter who owns it, so long as you have permission
- Translate it into common, standard formats
- Run data through models and solutions self-built or from third-party creators to transform it into data with spatial awareness
- Push it to any endpoint; application or service.

7. Enterprise DIY v Eratos
The current landscape consists of highly fragmented tooling that suits point solutions to solve problems. This has served us well in the past, but things have changed. Climate, biodiversity crisis, and global pandemics are forcing all institutions to re-evaluate how we interact. The only way this is possible is to make our future decision-making models spatially aware.
Eratos is a fully integrated system. It is a scalable, enterprise-grade platform that delivers control, robustness, and provenance to any data flow. Through integration, it makes the onboarding of new data from any source easy (standard licensing), lightning-fast to use (distributed architecture), and strong data controls (permissions and provenance.)

Eratos is the only integrated platform that provides for modular and composable design of spatial applications and services at scale. This modularity provides a means to rapidly build models, test and refine them by incorporating them into workflows with data, and operationalizing them.
For our customers, this means scaling solutions across almost any domain or geographic region by collaborating with internal and external experts.
